Warsaw – Open innovation to help restaurants

The city of Warsaw is using the Living Lab concept to co-create solutions for the gastronomy sector. With restaurants and bars hit hard by the consequences of the corona pandemic, the local government invites different experts: entrepreneurs, journalists, city officers from different departments. In a pilot project they aim to define the most adapted co-creation method at the municipal level and to tackle the crisis faced by the gastronomy sector. The final solution shall be ready in September.

Nice – Pact for jobs

With a pact for employment the city of Nice, France, wants to support the economic recovery after the corona pandemic. Mayor Christian Estrosi met with representatives of the state and the local economic community on Friday to launch the initiative. He announced to allocate an additional budget of €3.5 million.

Glasgow – Innovation-led recovery for our cities

Following the initial Eurocities ‘online city dialogue on responses from cities to the coronavirus outbreak’ in early April, Glasgow and Nantes Métropole as European Commission 2019 Cities of Innovation identified the opportunity for further cooperation through Glasgow’s European Capital of Innovation (iCapital) Alumni Network collaboration platform – iKEN

The iKEN platform is a spin-out programme from the European Commission’s annual iCapital competition which rewards cities who have built the most inclusive and dynamic innovation ecosystems, for the benefit of citizens and businesses. During a time of crisis, the need for innovation has never been greater.

Open to all cities not just iCapitals, Glasgow invites you to Join us at 11amBST / 12pm (CET) on Wednesday 13 May where you get the chance to connect with experts in other iCapital Alumni Network cities and hear first-hand the way some of Europe’s most innovative cities are responding to the COVID-19 crisis.

Cologne – Innovation database

The city of Cologne has created a database of best practices from local companies that have found innovative and creative solutions to deal with the present circumstances. This includes, for example, digital window-shopping or selling vouchers for favourite individual stores or pubs around the corner. Read more here

Poznan – Manufacturing test kits

In Poznan scientists from the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences have developed the production of their own test in cooperation with Polish enterprises. Its quality is equal to commercial tests, and it is much cheaper and available in quantities of hundreds of thousands.

Antalya Muratpaşa – Printing masks

Antalya Muratpaşa Municipality has started to produce face shields with 3D printers. 3D printing has allowed the municipality to produce 2,150 visors within three days, which have been distributed to professionals at risk, especially those working in hospitals. Read more (in Turkish) here.

The municipality is also working on many other hygiene measures, including disinfecting public areas, markets, service buildings and cultural locations such as Hadrian’s Gate.
