Vienna – Education and training for young people

Vienna is investing €17 million to help out the more than 16,000 young people currently without a job. The package includes intra-company vocational training, qualification passports, assistance for catching up the missed time and offers to enter into professions in health, care and IT, dedicated to the young generation.

Mayor Michael Ludwig, City Councillor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke and Deputy Mayor Birgit Hebein therefore now have launched an education and training package which is being implemented by the Vienna Employment Promotion Fund (waff).

The economic consequences of the Corona crisis hit young people particularly hard. 172,646 people were unemployed in Vienna in May. Compared to May of the previous year, this is an increase of 57.2 per cent or 62,817 Viennese. Among the 20 to 24 year olds, unemployment more than doubled with an increase of 8,550 persons. A total of 16,154 young Viennese in this age group are without jobs. The number of apprenticeships registered with the Austrian Labour Market Service (AMS) shows a decrease of 23 per cent compared to the previous year.
